time magazine presents the story of an 18 year old afghan girl that had her nose and ears cut off for running away from abusive in-laws. this didn’t happen while the taliban was ruling the country but just recently. her story and the stories of others like her beg the question what will happen in the country when the US leaves? are we still useful there and are things still getting better? i don’t know but i know that US presence in afghanistan did nothing to prevent the brutality suffered by the girl on the cover of this week’s issue of the magazine.
